The Guardian's Glenn Greenwald - The Conscience of America

Glenn Greenwald was introduced as "the conscience of America" by Jeremy Scahill before a speech he gave by Skype, on Friday, June 28th, at the Socialism Conference. It was a fitting and proper introduction for Greenwald, and his paper The Guardian, who have taken the lead in investigative journalism today. Greenwald then goes on and gives a rousing good speech that you should listen to if you any concerns about the vast and unchecked power of the NSA. Because we need more men and women of good conscience, like Edward Snowden and journalists like Greenwald, to shine a bright light on the secret surveillance state the US Government has built, which now owns us.

Greenwald made one new revelation about the NSA during his speech. It was based on material he had yet to publish. He said they now have "brand new technology that enables the national security agency to redirect into its own repositories one billion cell phone calls every single day. One billion cell phone calls every single day." Their control of the digital domain is complete.

Three cheers for Snowden, Greenwald, and the Constitution.

The full transcript is at Firedog Lake --
At the annual Socialism Conference in Chicago last night, The Guardian’s Glenn Greenwald delivered a speech where he talked about connecting and meeting National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden for the first time. He spoke about being surprised by how he was young and how his resolve and conviction about revealing the inner workings of the NSA inspired him to be courageous and go out and report on documents he was given over the next three to four months.

Greenwald addressed how the NSA revelations have not only exposed the surveillance state of the United States but also the corruption and moral rot of American establishment journalism. He also left the audience with a message about not being afraid of the “climate of fear” the US government wishes to impose on those who would dare to challenge their power.

"Forever" - Haim

Sisterly act Haim... nailing a strain of soulful, syncopated, and clean LA studio pop with just the right touch of fashion, finesse, and familial alchemy, and their fanbase has grown by degrees with each of those modifiers. This is a band we can get behind, let alone one to watch, in both pure musical and also pure visual terms. As such, last night on Letterman was a proper showcase for their charms, and as such, they charmed. Watch it, it’s recommended:
