Musician Matthew Shafer -- who performs under the name Uncle Kracker -- was in the Wake County Jail this morning on a charge of second-degree sex offense. Shafer was in Raleigh on Thursday night to perform in an outdoor concert at the Depot building on Davie Street downtown. Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said the charge stemmed from an incident at a downtown nightclub. Shafer was arrested early today at the Embassy Suites in Cary. He was being held in lieu of $5 million secured bond and was scheduled for a first appearance in court at 2 p.m. today.
