The Duke case started with Crystal Gail Mangum claiming she was gang raped by three men named Adam, Matt, and Bret; but resulted in the indictment of Reade, Collin, and Dave?
LieStoppers breaks down the bumbling Durham police investigation of the alleged Duke rape and shows how they distorted the facts, and probably even lied, regarding the names and descriptions of the assailants in order to finally frame three lacrosse players.
Our conclusion, of course, is that this is yet another shameless Hoax Within a Hoax born not out of information received nor evidence gathered but rather out of the necessity to find somebody, anybody, preferably three-bodies to charge.Betsy says Duke owes Coach Pressler an apology:
Duke has recently hired a PR firm to help them recover their image after all the bad press they've received since this story broke. I suggest that Duke remember that one of their jobs is protecting their students and not treating them as if they're guilty before they've heard the evidence. Perhaps, they might start by apologizing for the way they treated Coach Pressler and canceled the season simply because they couldn't stand the bad publicity of pictures being broadcast showing the boys practicing. One of the lessons of being an athlete or top in anything is that sometimes you need to go deep within yourself to summon up strengths you didn't know you had. The lesson is not that you run away just because the going has gotten tough and people are criticizing you. Unfortunately, Duke's administration didn't ever learn that lesson.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier believes the case will have a chilling effect:
While Mike Nifong and his keystone cops exploit this case and seem to be making a sport of the whole thing, lives are at stake. Reputations are at stake.sources:
And the biggest loser of this case, ultimately? Women. This case is having a chilling effect on truly traumatized women coming forward to press charges. More men, true criminals, will get away with rape in the future because of this. And that is what upsets me most about this case.
