Climate Collapse Coming?

Todd Gross the local weather man for television station WHDH-TV in Boston reported on April 2nd:

Tornadoes in the midwest?, cold weather in the East? has that caught our attention.. well, yes, but neither compare in terms of the "freakiness" of what happened in Brazil over the weekend. A Hurricane/Typhoon/Cyclone (pick a name, they don't have them down there, and all 3 storms are the same) struck southern Brazil coming off the S. Atlantic. The only problem... HURRICANES HAVE NEVER FORMED IN THE SOUTH ATLANTIC IN MODERN DAY RECORD KEEPING!.

So many people grumble about climate change. Every time the weather gets slightly unusual, a heat wave in April, -10 in January, a warm winter, folks start surmising that the climate is changing. Well, the absolutely biggest clue to global climate change "might" be a Hurricane in the S. Atlantic, indicating that sea temperatures and/or circulation patterns have shifted. Here at 7 Weather, you know that I like to give you the "inside scoop" (like the fact that we STILL are not out of the snow season in reality) and here is amble opportunity for an inside track tip: The Hurricane in Brazil this past weekend (3,000 homeless) while only category 1 or 2, is one of the most important weather events ever to happen on Earth in your lifetime. It may or may not be a signal of further changes in global climate in decades ahead, but it is fascinating nonetheless.

The theories of climate change are many, and frankly, nothing may happen.... but most include a warm-up scenario over the next few decades. One climate theory is that the Gulf Stream may be interrupted by melted polar ice, which would radically "cool" Europe and somewhat here in New England as well, as the Gulf Stream turns off.
